A trip around the world can bring so much. New impressions and acquaintances are almost guaranteed. Anyone who has ever been on the road for a long period of time, knows, that a large dose of different cultures stimulates the senses and thus inevitably raises the question “Who am I and what do I want?”
Moritz Gamper and Solen Benabadji had the same fate when they met traveling across South America. There they became backpacking buddies and started to write music on their now common journey. When later the desire to settle down arose, it was time for them to separate again. But the adventure was not to be over yet.
Moritz moved to Vienna, where he met Simon Mayrl, who himself had only recently returned from a South American adventure. The common passion for music and travelling flourished in an extremely productive collaboration in songwriting and so they created a solid foundation and only needed a few co-carriers to be able to really call themselves “a band“.
At the same time Solen moved to Morocco. In his thoughts, never detached from the musical vision that emerged with Moritz between mountain peaks and desert campfires, he soon made a decision: “Vienna it is!” As quickly as he had set up his tent in Morocco, he took it down again and moved to the Austrian capital.
To be a real band, however, they needed even more. It wouldn’t work without drums, and keys were essential for the planned project. Julian Ritzlmayr and Florian Graf joined in and so the game was complete: DESERT MAY BLOOM was born.
Well, a blooming desert, that’s exactly what they sound like: Eternal horizon and blazing sun. But the flavour is nothing like crispy desert sand. No! A fruity taste creeps in and gains the upper hand again and again. Clever guitar riffs and relevant drums, paired with modern music production. Eloquent lyrics - mostly polyphonic - packed into hitty melodies.
Rock/Pop for globetrotters.
Yes, because if you sometimes feel like leaving everything where it is and just sail away, Desert May Bloom is the sound you want to take with you. Their music screams for wanderlust, a new start and adventure. A good travel companion guaranteed.
